To keep things making a little sense (although I do plan to continue the history a little later on), I currently own 2 480's named Vince and Glen. They'll both get their own entries on here when i can be bothered.
Today however was a rare day for any 480 owner, when things just went right! I'd been plagued with an ABS warning light, since I bought the car and bothered to replace the dashboard light. I decided today was a chance to do something about it, and donned with a new replacement ABS pump and ECU I set about swapping it over.
I'd diagnosed the old one was at fault by using the Volvo's on board diagnostic computer, which flashes out a series of LED's corresponding to a fault code, a bit like OBDC II yet a very retro version. For the old Pump/ECU nothing happened when connected, connecting the new one flashed 1 - 1 - 1 or no faults.
Changing it over was a relatively straightforward process (despite Haynes saying 5 Spanners, take it to Volvo or die etc). Infact I only used 2 spanners, 13mm for the holding bolts, and 11m for the unions to the brake pipes. It took a few hours simply because there was brake fluid everywhere and the bolts took a while to get off (thanks to penetrating oil for actually working).
Pump Changed, Test drive, Job Done! Needs a brake bleed now!
